Houndsditch Street

Running southeast from Bishopsgate Street to Aldgate Street outside the city wall, Houndsditch Street passed through Bishopsgate Ward and Portsoken Ward. It was first paved in 1603 (Harben 311). Houndsditch Street took its name from nearby Houndsditch. Stow refers to the neighbourhood surrounding Houndsditch Street as Houndsditch: (within the limits of Hounds-ditch) dwell many a good and honest Citizen (Stow 1633, sig. M1v).
