Beer Lane

Beer Lane ran north-south from Tower Street to Thames Street in Tower Street Ward. Stow notes that Beer Lane included many faire houses (Stow).
The origin of the name Beer Lane, or Bear Lane, is unclear. Some have suggested Beer Lane was named after a sign of the bear in the lane while others have implied it was named as a way through to Brewers Key (Harben). Beer Lane is featured on the Agas map. It appears south of All Hallows Barking and its accompanying label, east of Tower Hill. It bears the label Burre la.
