Alderman Bury

According to Stow, Alderman Bury was the meeting place of the Court of Aldermen before the completion of the Guild Hall in 1431 (Stow 1598, sig. Q4r). Alderman Bury stood on the east side of Aldermanbury street, just to the west of its successor, the Guild Hall. In Stow’s time, the site of the demolished Alderman Bury, whose ruins were still visible, was used as a carpenter’s yard (Stow 1598, sig. Q4r). This site is not to be confused with Aldermanbury, the street which ran north-south between Love Lane and Lad Lane.
