The Goldsmiths’ Company

The Goldsmiths’ Company was one of the twelve great companies of London. To serve as Lord Mayor, an Alderman had to be free of one of these twelve companies. The Goldsmiths were fifth in the order of precedence established in 1515. The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths is still active and maintains a website at http://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/welcome/, with a useful overview of their history and role in the annual Trial of the Pyx.
