            <p>This semi-diplomatic transcription takes the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">University of Victoria</name> copy (<idno type="call">DA680 S87 1633</idno>) of
               <idno type="STC">STC 23345</idno> (ESTC S117597) as its control text. Digital surrogates of this copy are available in
               <ref target="http://contentdm.library.uvic.ca/cdm/compoundobject/collection/collection25/id/993">UVic ContentDM</ref> (Collection 25, <idno>993</idno>).
               For convenience, and only because <idno type="STC">STC 23345</idno> has not yet been transcribed by EEBO-TCP, we began with the XML file of the EEBO-TCP transcription
               of the <date notBefore-custom="1640" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">post-1640</date> <idno type="STC">STC 23345.5</idno>/<idno type="Wing">Wing S5773A</idno>
               (<idno type="TCP">TCP A13053</idno>), available on <ref target="https://github.com/textcreationpartnership/A13053">GitHub</ref>). The names of the EEBO-TCP
               transcribers are unknown. <name ref="PERS1.xml#SCHA2">Paul Schaffner</name> edited the original EEBO-TCP markup in or before <date notAfter="2012">2012</date>.
               <name ref="PERS1.xml#RAHT1">Sebastian Rahtz</name> created the TEI Stylesheets to convert the EEBO-TCP file to TEI-P5 in or before 2012. <name ref="PERS1.xml#HOLM3">Martin Holmes</name>
               downloaded the XML file from the GitHub repository. <name ref="PERS1.xml#TAKE1">Joey Takeda</name> and <name ref="PERS1.xml#HOLM3">Martin Holmes</name> processed the file programmatically
               to bring it in line with MoEML’s TEI customization. They added proleptic catchwords (based on the first word on the next page) and converted short s back to long s based on
               predictable patterns. <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#TEAM1">MoEML Research Assistants</name> at the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">University of Victoria</name> performed the
               following additional tasks: transcribed the <date when-custom="1633" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">1633</date> text from the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">UVic</name> copy
               in those places where the <date notBefore-custom="1640" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">post-1640</date> text differed; supplied content for the gaps left by the EEBO-TCP
               transcribers; checked the transcription against digital surrogates of the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">UVic</name> copy and against the copy itself; corrected the proleptic
               catchwords where necessary; transcribed the formeworks; added links to digital surrogates; and tagged all people, places, and dates. The text was then checked by Editor
               <name ref="PERS1.xml#JENS1">Janelle Jenstad</name>.</p>

                  <p>This VVard beginneth in the East,
<lb/>at the West end of <ref target="DOWN1.xml"><hi>Downegate</hi> Ward</ref>, at
<lb/>the <ref target="WALB3.xml">water-course of <hi>Walbrooke</hi></ref>, which
<lb/>parteth them, to wit, at <ref target="GRAN6.xml"><hi>Granthams lane</hi></ref> <!--CT: 1598 Stow has BREW4 tagged here, which may need to be corrected-->,
<lb/>on the <ref target="THAM2.xml"><hi>Thames</hi></ref> side, and at <ref target="ELBO2.xml"><hi>Elbow lane</hi></ref>,
<lb/>on the Land side: it runneth along in
<lb/><ref target="THAM2.xml"><hi>Thames</hi> street</ref>, West, some three hou<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ses beyond the <ref target="OLDS3.xml"><hi>Old Swan</hi></ref>, a Brewhouse,

                  <p>In breadth, this VVard stretcheth
<lb/>from the <ref target="VINT4.xml"><hi>Vintrie</hi></ref> North, to the wall of
<lb/>the West gate of the <ref target="TOWE8.xml"><hi>Tower Royall</hi></ref>: the
<lb/>other North part is of <ref target="CORD1.xml"><hi>Cordwainer street</hi>
<lb/>Ward</ref>.</p>
                  <p>Out of this <ref target="TOWE2.xml"><hi>Royall street</hi></ref> by the South
<lb/>gate of <ref target="TOWE8.xml"><hi>Tower-Royall</hi></ref>, runneth a small
<lb/>street, East to <ref target="STJO4.xml">Saint <hi>Iohns</hi> upon <hi>Wal<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>brooke</hi></ref>,

There dwelled <name ref="PERS1.xml#GISO1"><hi>Iohn Gisers</hi></name>, Vint<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ner, Maior of <ref target="LOND5.xml"><hi>London</hi></ref>, and Constable of
<lb/>the Tower, and then was <name ref="PERS1.xml#PICA4"><hi>Henry Picard</hi></name>,
<lb/>Vintner, Maior. In this house <name ref="PERS1.xml#PICA4"><hi>Henry
<lb/>Picard</hi></name> feasted foure Kings in one day; as
<lb/>in my Summary I have shewed.</p>
                  <p>Then next is <ref target="CHUR2.xml"><hi>Vannars lane</hi></ref>,
                     <label rendition="#stow_1633_VINT2_lmlabel" place="margin-left"><ref target="CHUR2.xml">Vanners Lane</ref>.</label> so called of

<lb/>lanes. At the North-west corner of this
                     <lb/>lane is the <ref target="CLER3.xml">Parish-Clerks Hall</ref>,<label rendition="#stow_1633_VINT2_lmlabel" place="margin-left"><ref target="CLER3.xml">Parish Clerks Hall</ref>.</label> lately by
<lb/>them purchased, since they lost their old
<lb/>Hall in <ref target="BISH3.xml"><hi>Bishopsgate street</hi></ref>. Next is <ref target="SPIT2.xml"><hi>Spit<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>tle</hi> lane</ref>, of old time so called; since, <ref target="SPIT2.xml"><hi>Sto<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>dies lane</hi></ref>,

<lb/>one of them to be Tutor, and to have 16

                  <p>The Licence for this foundation was

                  <p>This foundation was againe confir<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>med by Parliament, <date datingMethod="includes.xml#regnal" calendar="includes.xml#regnal" when-custom="r_HENR2_10">the tenth of <hi>Henry</hi>
<lb/>the sixth</date>, and was suppressed by the
<lb/>Statute of <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA4"><hi>Edward</hi> the sixth</name>. The Almes

                  <p>This Tower seemeth to have beene
<lb/>(at that time) of good defence, for when
<lb/>the Rebels had beset the <ref target="TOWE5.xml">Tower of <hi>Lon<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>don</hi></ref> and got possession thereof, taking
<lb/>from thence whom they listed, as in my
<lb/>Annales I have shewed; the Princesse
