            <p>This semi-diplomatic transcription takes the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">University of Victoria</name> copy (<idno type="call">DA680 S87 1633</idno>) of
               <idno type="STC">STC 23345</idno> (ESTC S117597) as its control text. Digital surrogates of this copy are available in
               <ref target="http://contentdm.library.uvic.ca/cdm/compoundobject/collection/collection25/id/993">UVic ContentDM</ref> (Collection 25, <idno>993</idno>).
               For convenience, and only because <idno type="STC">STC 23345</idno> has not yet been transcribed by EEBO-TCP, we began with the XML file of the EEBO-TCP transcription
               of the <date notBefore-custom="1640" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">post-1640</date> <idno type="STC">STC 23345.5</idno>/<idno type="Wing">Wing S5773A</idno>
               (<idno type="TCP">TCP A13053</idno>), available on <ref target="https://github.com/textcreationpartnership/A13053">GitHub</ref>). The names of the EEBO-TCP
               transcribers are unknown. <name ref="PERS1.xml#SCHA2">Paul Schaffner</name> edited the original EEBO-TCP markup in or before <date notAfter="2012">2012</date>.
               <name ref="PERS1.xml#RAHT1">Sebastian Rahtz</name> created the TEI Stylesheets to convert the EEBO-TCP file to TEI-P5 in or before 2012. <name ref="PERS1.xml#HOLM3">Martin Holmes</name>
               downloaded the XML file from the GitHub repository. <name ref="PERS1.xml#TAKE1">Joey Takeda</name> and <name ref="PERS1.xml#HOLM3">Martin Holmes</name> processed the file programmatically
               to bring it in line with MoEML’s TEI customization. They added proleptic catchwords (based on the first word on the next page) and converted short s back to long s based on
               predictable patterns. <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#TEAM1">MoEML Research Assistants</name> at the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">University of Victoria</name> performed the
               following additional tasks: transcribed the <date when-custom="1633" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">1633</date> text from the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">UVic</name> copy
               in those places where the <date notBefore-custom="1640" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">post-1640</date> text differed; supplied content for the gaps left by the EEBO-TCP
               transcribers; checked the transcription against digital surrogates of the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#UVIC3">UVic</name> copy and against the copy itself; corrected the proleptic
               catchwords where necessary; transcribed the formeworks; added links to digital surrogates; and tagged all people, places, and dates. The text was then checked by Editor
               <name ref="PERS1.xml#JENS1">Janelle Jenstad</name>.</p>

                  <p>The Customes of <ref target="GRAC3.xml"><hi>Grasse-church</hi> Mar<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ket</ref>, in the <date when-custom="r_EDWA3" datingMethod="includes.xml#regnal" calendar="includes.xml#regnal">reigne of <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA3"><hi>Edward</hi> the third</name></date>,
                     <lb/>as I have read in a Booke of Customes,<label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel" place="margin-right">Customes of <ref target="GRAC3.xml"><hi>Grasse-street</hi> Market</ref>.</label>
<lb/>were these: Every forraigne Cart, laden
<lb/>with Corne, or Mault, comming thi<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ther to be sold, was to pay one halfe<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>penny. Every forraigne Cart bringing
<lb/>Cheese, two pence. Every Cart of Corn
<lb/>and Cheese together (if the Cheese be
<lb/>more worth than the Corne) two pence;
<lb/>and if the Corne be more worth than
<lb/>the Cheese, it was to pay a halfe-penny.
<lb/>Of two horses laden with Corne or
<lb/>Mault, the Bailiffe had one farthing:

<lb/><hi>Iohn</hi> of <hi>Ierusalem</hi></ref>, paid nothing of their
<lb/>proper goods: and if the corne were
<lb/>brought by Merchants to sell againe, the
<lb/>loade paid a halfe-penny, &amp;c.</p>
                  <p>On the West side of this Ward, at
                     <lb/>the North end of <ref target="LOND1.xml"><hi>London</hi> Bridge</ref>,<label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel #stow_1633_BRID3_IR" place="margin-right"><ref target="THAM1.xml">Thames street</ref>.</label> is a
                     <lb/>part of <ref target="THAM1.xml"><hi>Thames street</hi></ref>, which is also of
<lb/>this Ward; to wit, so much as of old
                     <lb/>time was called <ref target="THAM1.xml"><hi>Stock-fishmonger Row</hi></ref>,
                     <label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel #stow_1633_BRID3_IR" place="margin-right"><ref target="THAM1.xml">Stockfish<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>mongers Row</ref>.</label> of
<lb/>the Stock-fish-mongers dwelling there,
<lb/>downe West to a Water gate, of old
                     <lb/>time called <ref target="OLDS2.xml"><hi>Ebgate</hi></ref>,
                     <label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel #stow_1633_BRID3_IR" place="margin-right"><ref target="OLDS2.xml">Ebgate lane</ref></label> since <ref target="OLDS2.xml"><hi>Ebgate lane</hi></ref>, and
                     <lb/>now the <ref target="OLDS2.xml"><hi>Old Swan</hi></ref>, which is a common
<lb/>staire on the <ref target="THAM2.xml"><hi>Thames</hi></ref>, but the passage is
<lb/>very narrow, by meanes of encroch<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ments.</p>
                  <p>On the South side of <ref target="THAM1.xml"><hi>Thames street</hi></ref>,
<lb/>about the mid-way betwixt the <ref target="LOND1.xml">Bridge</ref>
                     <lb/>foot and <ref target="OLDS2.xml"><hi>Ebgate lane</hi></ref>,
                     <label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel" place="margin-right"><ref target="FISH2.xml">Fishmon<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>gers Hall</ref>.</label> standeth the <ref target="FISH2.xml">Fish<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>mongers Hall</ref>, and divers other faire
<lb/>houses for Merchants.</p>
                  <p>These <name ref="ORGS1.xml#FISH5" type="org">Fishmongers</name> were sometimes
<lb/>of two severall Companies, to wit <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#STOC7"><hi>Stock<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>fishmongers</hi></name>,
                     <label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel" place="margin-right">Antiqui<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ties of the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#FISH5">Fishmon<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>gers</name>, <date when-custom="1290" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic" calendar="includes.xml#julianSic">1290</date></label> and <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#SALT8"><hi>Salt-fishmongers</hi></name>, of
<lb/>whose antiquity I reade, that by the
<lb/>name of <name ref="ORGS1.xml#FISH5" type="org">Fishmongers of <hi>London</hi></name>, they
<lb/>were for forestalling, &amp;c. contrary to
<lb/>the Lawes and constitutions of the Ci<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>tie, fined to the King at 500. Markes,
<lb/>the <date when-custom="r_EDWA1_18" datingMethod="includes.xml#regnal" calendar="includes.xml#regnal">18. of <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA1">King <hi>Edward</hi> the first</name></date>. More,

<lb/>the great victory obtained by the same
<lb/>King against the <hi>Scots</hi>, in the <date when-custom="r_EDWA1_26" datingMethod="includes.xml#regnal" calendar="includes.xml#regnal">26. of his
<lb/>reigne</date>, made a triumphant and solemne

         <lb/>for the <name ref="ORGS1.xml#FISH5" type="org">Fishmongers</name>, prayeth the King
<lb/>to receive him and his Company into
<lb/>his protection, for feare of corporall
<lb/>hurt. Whereupon it was commanded,
<lb/>either part to keepe the peace, upon
<lb/>paine of losing all they had. Hereupon
<lb/>a Fishmonger starting up, replyed, that
<lb/>the complaint brought against them by
<lb/>the moovers, &amp;c. was but matter of

<lb/>Case: which the Chancellour by oath
<lb/>upon the Sacrament avoideth. In fur<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ther triall, it was found, that the Chan<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>cellours man (without his Masters pri<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>vitie) had taken it. Whereupon <hi>Caven<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>dish</hi> was adjudged to prison, and to pay

                  <p>After this, many of the Nobles assem<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>bled at <hi>Reding</hi>, to suppresse the seditious
<lb/>stirres of the said <name ref="PERS1.xml#NORT9"><hi>Iohn Northampton</hi></name>, or
<lb/><name ref="PERS1.xml#NORT9"><hi>Combarton</hi></name>, late Maior, that had attem<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>pted great and heinous enterprizes, of
<lb/>the which he was convict; and when he
<lb/>stood mute, nor would utter one word,
<lb/>it was decreed, that he should be com<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>mitted to perpetuall prison, his goods
<lb/>confiscate to the Kings use, and that he
<lb/>should not come within 100. miles of
<lb/><hi>London</hi> during his life. He was therfore
<lb/>sent to the Castle of <hi>Tintegall</hi>,

<lb/>of their Antiquities, and not able to
<lb/>shew a reason why, or when they were

<lb/>is also of this Ward; to wit, on the one
<lb/>side to a Well of water, and on the o<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ther side, as farre up as against the said
                     <lb/>Well. Then is <ref target="STMI2.xml">S. <hi>Michaels</hi> Lane</ref>, part
<lb/>whereof is also of this Ward, up to a
<lb/>Well there, &amp;c.</p>
      <p>Then at the upper end of <ref target="NEWF1.xml"><hi>New-Fish-street</hi></ref>,
         <label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_lmlabel #stow_1633_BRID3_IR" place="margin-left"><ref target="CROO1.xml">Crooked lane</ref>.</label> is a Lane turning towards <ref target="STMI2.xml">Saint
<lb/><hi>Michaels</hi> Lane</ref>, and is called <ref target="CROO1.xml"><hi>Crooked-lane</hi></ref>,
<lb/>of the crooked windings thereof.
<lb/>Above this Lanes end, upon <ref target="OLDF2.xml"><hi>Fish-street</hi>
<lb/>Hill</ref>, is one great house, for the most
<lb/>part builded of stone, which pertained
         <lb/>sometime to <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA2"><hi>Edward</hi> the blacke Prince</name>,
         <lb/>sonne to <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA3"><hi>Edward</hi> the third</name>,<label rendition="#stow_1633_BRID3_rmlabel" place="margin-right">
   <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA2"><hi>Edward</hi> the blacke Prince</name>.</label> who was in
<lb/>his life time lodged there.</p>
                  <p>It is now altered to a common Ho<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>sterie, having the <hi>Blacke Bell</hi> for a signe.
                     <lb/>Above this house, at the top of <ref target="OLDF2.xml"><hi>Fish-street</hi>
                        <lb/>Hill</ref>, is a turning into <ref target="EAST2.xml"><hi>Great East-cheape</hi></ref>,
                     <lb/>and so to the corner of <ref target="LOMB1.xml"><hi>Lombard</hi>
                        <lb/>street</ref>, over against the North-west cor<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ner of <ref target="GRAC1.xml"><hi>Grasse-Church</hi></ref>. And these be the
<lb/>whole bounds of this <ref target="BRID3.xml"><hi>Bridge</hi> Ward
<lb/>within</ref>: The which hath an Alderman
<lb/>and his Deputy; for the <name ref="ORGS1.xml#COUN5" type="org">Common-Counsell</name>,
<lb/>16. Constable, 15. Scaven<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>gers, 6. for the Ward-more Inquest,
<lb/>sixteene, and a Beadle. It is is taxed to
<lb/>the Fifteene in <ref target="LOND5.xml"><hi>London</hi></ref>, at forty seven
