        <abstract><p><ref target="STBO2.xml">St. Botolph, Aldgate</ref> was a parish church near <ref target="ALDG1.xml">Aldgate</ref> at the junction of <ref target="ALDG4.xml">Aldgate Street</ref> and <ref target="HOUN1.xml">Houndsditch</ref>. It was
        located in <ref target="PORT1.xml">Portsoken Ward</ref> on the north side of
            <ref target="ALDG4.xml">Aldgate Street</ref>. <name ref="PERS1.xml#STOW6">Stow</name> notes that the
        <quote>Church hath beene lately new builded at the speciall charges of the
            <ref target="HOLY1.xml">Priors of the holy Trinitie</ref>
        </quote> before
        the Priory was dissolved in <date when-custom="1531" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic" calendar="includes.xml#julianSic">1531</date> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#STOW15">Stow</ref>).</p></abstract>

                    church was pulled down and rebuilt between <date from-custom="1725" to-custom="1740" calendar="includes.xml#julianSic" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">1725-1740</date> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#HARB1">Harben</ref>). The newer building
                     remains on the same site today.</p>

                <p>Also known as <ref target="STBO2.xml">St. Botolph without Aldgate</ref>, the
                    church stands immediately northeast of <ref target="ALDG1.xml">Aldgate</ref> on
                    the Agas map, beneath the label <quote>
                  <ref target="STBO2.xml">S.
                            Buttolphes</ref></quote>.</p>
