      <p><ref target="FINC1.xml">Finch Lane</ref> (labelled <quote><ref target="FINC1.xml">Finke la.</ref></quote> on the Agas map) was a small north-south lane that ran between <ref target="THRE1.xml">Threadneedle Street</ref> and <ref target="CORN2.xml">Cornhill</ref>. The north half of the lane was in <ref target="BROA3.xml">Broadstreet Ward</ref> and the latter half was in <ref target="CORN1.xml">Cornhill Ward</ref>. It is likely that the lane is named after <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK2">Robert Finke</name> and his family (son <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK3">Robert Finke</name> and relatives <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK4">James</name> and <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK5">Rosamund</name>).</p>

             <p>According to <name ref="PERS1.xml#STOW6">Stow</name> and Harben, the lane is named after <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK2">Robert Finke</name> and his family (son <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK3">Robert Finke</name> and relatives <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK4">James</name> and <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK5">Rosamund</name>) as <name ref="PERS1.xml#FINK2">Robert Finke</name> financed the building of <ref target="STBE2.xml">St. Benet Fink</ref> church. <title level="m">The Dictionary of London</title>, however, notes that <ref target="FINC1.xml">Finch Lane</ref> may also refer to a Ailwin Fink, a <quote>moneychanger who lived in <ref target="FINC1.xml">Finkeslane</ref> <date from-custom="1261" to-custom="1262" calendar="includes.xml#julianSic" datingMethod="includes.xml#julianSic">1261-2</date></quote> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#WEIN2">Weinreb, Hibbert, Keay, and Keay 290</ref>). Few literary texts reference <ref target="FINC1.xml">Finch Lane</ref>; Sugden does note that <name ref="PERS1.xml#DELO2">Thomas Deloney</name>’s <title level="m">The Gentle Craft</title> mentions <quote>Anthony Now-Now, the firkin fidler of <ref target="FINC1.xml">Finchlane</ref></quote> (qtd. in <ref target="BIBL1.xml#SUGD1" type="bibl">Sugden 191</ref>). </p>
             
             <p>Finch Lane still exists in modern London.</p>
