Church Lane was a semi-circular lane
that wrapped around the south side of the parish church of St. Dunstan in the East, in Tower Street Ward. Both ends of Church Lane led south off Tower Street. Then haue ye
two lanes out of Tower streete, both
called Churchlanes, because one
runneth downe by the East ende of Saint
Dunstans Church, and the other by the west ende of the same
(Stow). The marginal note in the 1603
edition of
Church lane by Eastand
Church lane in the west(Stow). Church Lane is not labelled on the Agas map. The western end bears the label
S. Donat Hill(a corruption of St. Dunstan’s Hill).
