Fleet Street runs east-west from Temple Bar to Fleet Hill or Ludgate Hill, and is named for the Fleet River. The road has existed since at least the

Walter Thornbury dates the wooden gate structure shown in the Agas Map to the early Tudor period, and describes a number of historical pageants that processed through it, including the funeral procession of

St. Andrew Holborn was a parish church in Farringdon Without Ward, located on Holborn street between Fetter Lane and Shoe Lane. It is located on the Agas map and is labelled as S. Andrews
. According to the largest of his parish churches, measuring 32 by 19 meters and costing £9,000
(Weinreb and Hibbert 741).

on the Agas map) was a significant site for royalty in early modern London. Erected in
Strand Lane was a narrow and rather winding thoroughfare leading to the Embankment a few yards to the east of Somerset House
(Thornbury).

The Julian calendar, in use in the British Empire until September 1752. This calendar is used for dates where the date of the beginning of the year is ambigious.
The Julian calendar with the calendar year regularized to beginning on 1 January.
The Julian calendar with the calendar year beginning on 25 March. This was the calendar used in the British Empire until September 1752.
The Gregorian calendar, used in the British Empire from September 1752. Sometimes
referred to as New Style (NS). Years run from January 1 through December 31.
The Anno Mundi (year of the world
) calendar is based on the supposed date of the
creation of the world, which is calculated from Biblical sources. At least two different
creation dates are in common use. See Anno Mundi (Wikipedia).
Regnal dates are given as the number of years into the reign of a particular monarch. Our practice is to tag such dates with @calendar="regnal", and provide an equivalent date using a more systematic calendar (usually Julian) in a custom dating attribute.
Most MoEML documents, or significant fragments with @xml:id attributes, can
be addressed using the mol: prefix and accessed through the web application
with their id + .xml.
The molagas prefix points to the shape representation of a location on MoEML’s OpenLayers3-based rendering of the Agas Map.

The mdt (MoEML Document Type) prefix used on <catRef>/@target points to a central taxonomy in the includes file.
The mdtlist (MoEML Document Type listing) prefix used in linking attributes points to a listings page constructed from a category in the central MDT taxonomy in the includes file. There are two variants, one with the plain @xml:id of the category, meaning all documents in the specified category, and one with the suffix _subcategories
, meaning all subcategories of the category.
The molgls (MoEML gloss) prefix used on <term>/@corresp points to a a glossary entry in the GLOSS1.xml file.
This molvariant prefix is used on <ref>/@target attributes during automated generation of gazetteer index files. It points to an element in the generated variant spellings listing file which lists all documents which contain a particular spelling variant for a location.
This molajax prefix is used on <ref>/@target attributes during the static build process, to specify links which point to MoEML resources which should not be loaded into the source page during standalone processing; instead, these should be turned into links to the XML source documents, and at HTML page load time, these should be turned into AJAX calls. This is to handle the scenario in which a page such as an A-Z index of the whole site would end up containing virtually the whole site inside itself.
The molstow prefix is used on @facs attributes to link to the HCMC verison of the Stow facsimiles. Usually the first group is the year (1633) and then last is the image number (0001).
The molshows prefix is used on @facs attributes to link to the copies of page-images from mayoral shows stored in the london account on the HCMC server. The first group is the year (1633), the second is the source repository, and then last is the image file name.
The sb prefix is used on <ref>/@target attributes to link to Stow’s Books URLs at UToronto.

other houſes adjoyning, were pulled
down in the reigne of Edw. the 6EdwardSommerſet, who in place
thereof raiſed that large and beautifull
houſe, called Sommerſet Houſe.
There was moreover, in the Of Orders and Cuſtomes.Henry the ſixthChancery, mentioned by Iuſtice ForteſcueEngland: but where it ſtood, or when it
was abandoned, I cannot find, and ther
fore I will leave it, and returne to the
reſt.
The Houſes of Court be repleniſhed,
partly with yong ſtudents, and partly
with Graduates and practiſers of the
Law: but the Innes of Chancerie, being
(as it were) provinces, ſeverally ſubje
cted to the Innes of Court, bee chiefly
furniſhed with Officers, Atturneys, Sol
liciters and Clerkes, that follow the
mon Pleas. And yet there want not
ſome other, being young ſtudents, that
come thither ſometimes from one of
the Vniverſities, and ſometimes imme
diately from Grammer Schooles, and
theſe having ſpent ſome time in ſtudy
ing upon the grounds of the Law, and
having performed the exerciſes of their
owne houſes, (called Boltas Mootes, and
putting of caſes) they proceed to be ad
mitted, and become ſtudents in ſome of
theſe foure houſes or Innes of Court,
where continuing by the ſpace of ſeven
yeeres, or thereabouts, they frequent
Readings, Meetings, Boltings, and o
ther learned exerciſes, whereby grow
ing ripe in the knowledge of the Lawes,
and approved withall, to bee of honeſt
converſation, they are either by the ge
nerall conſent of the Benchers, or Rea
ders, (being of the moſt ancient, grave,
and judiciall men of every Inne of the
Court, or by ſpeciall priviledge of the
preſent Reader there, ſelected and cal
led to the degree of Vtter Barriſters, and
ſo enabled to be common Counſellors.
and to practiſe the Law, both in their
Chambers, and at the Barres.
Of theſe, after that they be called to a
further ſtep of preferment, called the
Bench, there are two (every yeere) cho
ſen among the Benchers of every Inne
of Court, to be Readers there, who doe
make their Readings at two times of
the yeere alſo: that is, one in Lent, and
the other in the beginning of Auguſt.
And for the helpe of yong Students
in every one of the Innes of Chancerie,
they doe likewiſe chooſe out of every
one Inne of Court a Reader, being no
Bencher, but an Vtter Barriſter there, in
tenne or twelve yeeres continuance, and
of good profit in ſtudie. Now from
theſe of the ſaid degree of Counſel
lours, or Vtter Barriſters, having conti
nued therein the ſpace of foureteene or
fifteene yeeres at the leaſt, the chiefeſt
and beſt learned are (by the Benchers)
elected to increaſe the number, as I ſaid,
of the Bench amongſt them; and ſo in
their time doe become, firſt ſingle, and
then double Readers, to the ſtudents of
thoſe houſes of Court.
After which laſt Reading, they bee
named Apprentices at the Law, and in
default of a ſufficient number of Serje
ants at Law, theſe are, at the pleaſure
of the Prince, to bee advanced to the
places of Serjeants.
Out of which number of Serjeants
alſo, the void places of Iudges are like
wiſe ordinarily filled, albeit (now and
then) ſome be advanced by the ſpeciall
favour of the Prince, to the eſtate, dig
nity, and place both of Serjeant and
Iudge, as it were in one inſtant. But
from thence-forth, they hold not any
roome in thoſe Innes of Court, by being
tranſlated to one of the ſaid two Innes,
called Serjeants Innes, where none
but the Serjeants and Iudges doe con
verſe.
