                <p>Formerly <ref target="MOUN8.xml">Mountjoy’s Inn</ref>, the <ref target="#DOCT1">Doctors’ Commons, Knightrider Street</ref> was the
                    meeting place for the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#DOCT3">Doctors’ Commons</name>,
                    <quote>where they kept a common table and built up a precious library of
                        foreign law books</quote> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#BAKE14">Baker
                            180</ref>). Eventually, the <ref target="#DOCT1">Doctors’ Commons,
                                Knightrider Street</ref> housed five courts: the <name type="org" ref="ORGS1.xml#ARCH14">Court of Arches</name>, the Prerogative Court, the Court of
                    Faculties and Dispensations, the Consistory Court of the Bishop of London, and
                    the <name ref="ORGS1.xml#ADMI2" type="org">High Court of Admiralty</name> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#HARB1">Harben</ref><!-- This was taken from a remediated version on BHO, which doesn't include page numbers. Add page numbers once we have access to the pysical book. -M.R. -->).
                    Henry Harben notes that the building burned down in the <ref target="FIRE1.xml">Great Fire of 1666</ref> and was subsequently rebuilt on the same site

<p>Located on the banks of the <ref target="THAM2.xml">Thames</ref>, <ref target="#BAYN1">Baynard’s Castle</ref> was built sometime
            in the <date notBefore="1050-01-07" notAfter="1101-03-30" calendar="#julianSic">late eleventh century</date> <quote>by <name ref="PERS1.xml#BAYN3">Baynard</name>, a Norman who came over with <name ref="PERS1.xml#WILL1">William the Conqueror</name></quote> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#WEIN1">Weinreb and Hibbert 129</ref>). The castle passed to
            <name ref="PERS1.xml#BAYN3">Baynard</name>’s heirs until one <name ref="PERS1.xml#BAYN2">William Baynard</name>, <quote>who by forfeyture for
            fellonie, lost his Baronie of little Dunmow</quote> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#STOW1">Stow 1:61</ref>). From the time it was built, <ref target="#BAYN1">Baynard’s Castle</ref> was <quote>the headquarters of London’s
            army until the reign of <name ref="PERS1.xml#EDWA1">Edward I</name></quote> when it was <quote>handed over to the Dominican Friars,
            the Blackfriars whose name is still commemorated along that part of the
            waterfront</quote> (<ref type="bibl" target="BIBL1.xml#HIBB1">Hibbert 10</ref>).</p>
