The names of the EEBO-TCP transcribers are unknown. <name ref="mol:SCHA2">Paul Schaffner</name> edited the original EEBO-TCP markup in or before <date notAfter="2012">2012</date>. <name ref="mol:RAHT1">Sebastian Rahtz</name> created the TEI Stylesheets to convert the EEBO-TCP file to TEI-P5 in or before 2012. <name ref="mol:HOLM3">Martin Holmes</name> downloaded the XML file from the GitHub repository. <name ref="mol:HOLM3">Martin Holmes</name> processed the file programmatically to bring it in line with MoEML’s TEI customization. Holmes added proleptic catchwords (based on the first word on the next page) and converted short s back to long s based on predictable patterns. <name type="org" ref="mol:TEAM1">MoEML Research Assistants</name> at the <name type="org" ref="mol:UVIC3">University of Victoria</name> performed the following additional tasks: supplied content for the gaps left by the EEBO-TCP transcribers; checked the transcription against digital surrogates of the <name type="org" ref="mol:UVIC3">UVic</name> copy and against the copy itself; corrected the proleptic catchwords where necessary; transcribed the formeworks; added links to digital surrogates; and tagged all people, places, and dates.                   greatly ſtrengthened by<lb/> meanes of incrochments, (vnlawfully made and ſuffred) for
                     gar<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>dens and houſes, ſome on the banke of
                  the <ref target="mol:TOWE6">Tower ditch</ref>, (where<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>by the ditch is marred) but more neere vnto the <ref target="mol:WALL2">wall of
                  the Citie</ref><lb/> from the <ref target="mol:POST1">Poſterne</ref> North till ouer againſt

                  further that way. Upon this hil is alwayes readily prepared at<lb/> the charges of the

                  part, and the<lb/> lane called the <ref target="mol:WATE3">water gate</ref> on the
                  weſt, to ſerue for Troynage, or<lb/><label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:WOOL1">Whole wharfe</ref><lb/> by <ref target="mol:CUST2"><hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_IR">C</hi>uſtome<lb/> key</ref>.</label> weighing of wooles in
                  the <ref target="mol:PORT6">Port of <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">London</hi></ref>: Whereupon the king<lb/> granted that
                  during the life of the ſaide <name ref="mol:CHIR2" rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Iohn</name>, the aforeſaid Troy<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>nage ſhould be<label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:WATE3">Water gate</ref><lb/> by <ref target="mol:WOOL1">Wolle key</ref>.</label> held and kept in the ſaide houſe, with eaſementes<lb/> there, for the ballances and waightes, and a counting place, for<lb/><label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:CUST1">Cuſtome<lb/>houſe</ref>.</label>
                  the Cuſtomer, Controwlers, Clarkes, and other Officers of the<lb/> ſaide Troynage together with ingreſſe and<label place="margin-left">Tronage <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_IR">o</hi>f<lb/> wels.</label> egreſſe to and frō the<lb/> ſame, euen as was had in other
                  places, where the ſaid Troynage<lb/> was wont to be kept, and that the king ſhould pay yearely
                  to the<lb/><label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:CUST1">Cuſtome<lb/> houſe</ref>.</label> ſaide <name ref="mol:CHIR2" rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Iohn</name>, during his life xl.<g ref="#stow_1598_TOWE4_shillings">s̃</g>. at the
                  termes of <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">S. Michaell</hi> and<lb/> <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Eaſter</hi>, by euen portions by the handes
                  of his Cuſtomer without<lb/> any other payment to the ſaide <name ref="mol:CHIR2" rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Iohn</name>, 
                  as in the Indenture thereof<lb/> more at large appeareth.</p>
               <p>Neare vnto this <ref target="mol:CUST2">Cuſtomers key</ref> towardes the Eaſt, is
                  the<lb/><label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:PORT7">Portars
                     key</ref> or<lb/> <ref target="mol:PORT7">Portars lane</ref></label> ſaide <ref target="mol:WATE3">watergate</ref>, and weſt from it <ref target="mol:PORT7">Porters
                     key</ref>,
                  then <ref target="mol:GALL1">Galley key</ref>,<lb/> where the Gallies<label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:GALL1">Galley key</ref>.</label> were vſed to vnlade, and land their
                  marchandi<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>zes and wares: and<label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:PETT2">Pety Wales</ref>.</label> that part of
                  <ref target="mol:THAM1">Thames ſtreete</ref>, was therefore<lb/> of ſome called <ref target="mol:PETT2">Galley Row</ref>, but more commonly <ref target="mol:PETT2">Petty Wales</ref>.
               </p>
               <p>On the North ſide, as well as on the South of this <ref target="mol:THAM1">Thames<lb/>
                     ſtreete</ref> is many fayre houſes large for ſtowage, builded for Mar<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>chantes, but towardes the eaſt ende thereof,
                  namely ouer againſt<lb/> <ref target="mol:GALL1">Galley key</ref>, <ref target="mol:WOOL1">Woole key</ref>, and the
                  <ref target="mol:CUST1">cuſtome houſe</ref>, there haue been,<lb/> of old time ſome large buildings of ſtone, the
                  ruines whereof doe<lb/> yet remaine, but the firſt builders and owners of them are worn<lb/>
                  out of memorie, wherefore the common people affirme <name rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R" ref="mol:CAES1">Iulius<lb/> Ceſar</name>
                  to bee <label place="margin-left"><name ref="mol:CAES1"><hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_IR">I</hi>ulius Ceſar</name>s<lb/> houſe by the<lb/> <ref target="mol:TOWE5">Tower</ref> as was<lb/> ſaid.</label>the builder
                  thereof, as alſo of the <ref target="mol:TOWE5">Tower</ref> it ſelfe. But<lb/> thereof
                  I haue ſpoken alreadie. Some are of an other opinion, and<lb/> that a more likely, that
                  this great ſtone building was ſometime<lb/><label place="margin-left">Princes of<lb/> Wales their<lb/>
                     lodging.</label>  the lodging appointed for the Princes of
                     <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">VVales</hi>, when they re<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>payred to
                  this cittie, and that therefore the ſtreete in that part, is<lb/> called <ref rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R" target="mol:PETT2">Pety Wales</ref>, which name remaineth there moſt
                  commonly<lb/> vntill this day: euen as where the kinges of <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Scotland</hi> were vſed<lb/>
                  to be lodged betwixt <ref target="mol:CHAR1">Charing croſſe</ref> and <ref target="mol:WHIT5">white hall</ref>, it is likewiſe<lb/> called <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Scotland</hi>:
                  and where the Earles of <ref target="mol:BRIT1" rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Briton</ref>, were lodged<lb/> without <ref rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R" target="mol:ALDE3">Alderſgate</ref>,
                  the ſtreete is called <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R"><ref target="mol:LITT1">Britaine ſtreete</ref>,
                     &amp;c</hi>. </p>
               <p>The ſaide building might of olde time pertaine to the Princes <fw type="catchword">of</fw>

               <p>It is before noted of <ref target="mol:GALL1">Galley key</ref> that the Gallies of
                  <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Italie</hi>,<lb/> and other partes did there diſcharge their <label place="margin-right">The Mar<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>chantes of <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_IR">I</hi><lb type="hyphenInWord"/>taly their lod<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ging by their Gallies.</label>wines and marchandi<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>zes brought to this Citie. It
                  is like therefore that the Marchants<lb/> and Owners procured the place to builde vpon
                  for their lodgings<lb/> and ſtorehouſes, as the <name ref="mol:MELA2" type="org">Marchantes of the Haunce of
                     <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Almayne</hi></name>,<lb/>were licenſed to haue an houſe called, <ref target="mol:MELA3" rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Gilda
                        Teutonicorum</ref> the<lb/> Guild hall of the Germaines. Alſo the Marchantes of
                        <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Burd<supplied resp="mol:MILL2" source="mol:STOW1" reason="unclear" evidence="conjecture">e<note type="editorial" resp="mol:MILL2">Underinking.</note></supplied><lb type="hyphenInWord"/>aux</hi> were licenſed to builde at the <ref target="mol:VINT4">Uintry</ref>, ſtronglie with ſtone, as<lb/> may bee yet ſeene
                  and ſeemeth olde, though often repayred: much<lb/> more cauſe hath theſe building in
                     <ref target="mol:PETT2">Pety Wales</ref> (though as lately<lb/> builded, and partly
                  of the like ſtone, brought<label place="margin-right">No Gallies<lb/>

                  many yeares (to wit ſince the<lb/> Gallies left their courſe of landing
                  there) hath fallen to ruine and<lb/> beene letten out, for ſtabling of horſes, to
                  Tiplers of Beere, and<lb/> ſuch like amongſt others, one <name ref="mol:MAMP1">mother <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Mampudding</hi></name> (as
                  they ter<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>med her) for many yeares kept this
                  houſe (or a greate parte there<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>of) for
                  victualing, and it ſeemeth that the builders of the hall of<lb/><label place="margin-right">A ſtrange kind<lb/> of building by<lb/>
                     Shipwrightes<lb/> or Gally men</label> this houſe were
                     ſhipwrightes, and not houſe Carpenters: for the<lb/> frame
                  thereof (being but low) is raiſed of certaine principall poſts<lb/> of maine
                  timber, fixed deepe in the ground, without any ground<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ſell boorded cloſe round aboute, on the inſide, hauing
                  none other<lb/> wall from the ground to the roofe, thoſe Boordes not excée<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>ding the length of a Clapboorde, aboute an

      the third</name></date>, that an Hoſpitall<note type="editorial" resp="mol:SIMP5"><ref target="mol:STMA62">St. Mary Hospital Barkingchurch</ref>.</note> in the<lb/> <ref target="mol:ALLH102">pariſh of Barking Church</ref> was founded there by
                  <name rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R" ref="mol:DENT1">Robert Dentō</name><lb/><label place="margin-right">An
                     Hoſpitall<lb/> for Lunatike<lb/> or phrenſie<lb/> people.</label> Chaplen, for the ſuffentation of poore Prieſtes, and

      Meſſuage<label place="margin-left"><ref target="mol:COBH2">Cobhams<lb/> Inne</ref>-</label> or great houſe, called <ref rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R" target="mol:COBH2">Cobhams
                     Inne</ref>,  and<lb/> in
      the <date when-custom="r_HENR2_37" datingMethod="mol:regnal" calendar="mol:regnal"><hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">37</hi>. of <name ref="mol:HENR2"><hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Henry</hi> the ſixt</name></date>, a Meſſuage in <ref target="mol:THAM1">Thames ſtreete</ref> per<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>tayning to <name ref="mol:LONG13" rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">Richarde Longuile</name> &amp;c. Some of the
                  ruines before<lb/> ſpoken of, may ſeeme to be of the foreſaide Hoſpitall, belonging<lb/>
      peraduenture to ſome Prior Alien, and ſo ſuppreſſed amongſt<lb/> the reſt, in the <date when-custom="r_EDWA3" datingMethod="mol:regnal" calendar="mol:regnal">raigne of

                  boundes<lb/> and antiquities of this warde, wherein is noted the <ref target="mol:TOWE5">Tower of<lb/> <hi rendition="#stow_1598_TOWE4_R">London</hi></ref>, three parriſh Churches, the
                     <ref target="mol:CUST1">Cuſtome houſe</ref>, and two<lb/> Hals of Companies, to wit,
                  the <name type="org" ref="mol:CLOT2">Clothworkers</name> and the <name type="org" ref="mol:BAKE4">Bakers</name>.<lb/> This warde hath an Alderman his Deputie, common
                     Counſel<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>lors eight, Conſtables thirteene,
                  Scauengers twelue, Ward<lb type="hyphenInWord"/>mote men thirteene,
