  <abstract><p><ref target="mol:STAN1">St. Andrew Holborn</ref> was a parish church in <ref target="mol:FARR2">Farringdon Without Ward</ref>, located on <ref target="mol:HOLB1">Holborn street</ref> between <ref target="mol:FETT1">Fetter Lane</ref> and <ref target="mol:SHOE1">Shoe Lane</ref>. It is located on the Agas map and is labelled as <quote><ref target="mol:STAN1">S. Andrews</ref></quote>. According to <name ref="mol:STOW6">Stow</name>, there was a grammar school, as well a monument dedicated to <name ref="mol:WRIO1">Lord Thomas Wriothesley</name> either within or nearby <ref target="mol:STAN1">St. Andrew Holborn</ref>. The church was first mentioned in Charter of <name ref="mol:EDGA1">King Edgar</name> in <date datingMethod="mol:julianSic" when-custom="0951">951</date>. This medieval church was rebuilt in <date datingMethod="mol:julianSic" when-custom="1632">1632</date> and managed to escape damage caused by the <ref target="mol:FIRE1">Great Fire</ref>. <name ref="mol:WREN1">Christopher Wren</name> rebuilt the church in <date datingMethod="mol:julianSic" when-custom="1684">1684</date> making it <quote>the largest of his parish churches, measuring 32 by 19 meters and costing £9,000</quote> (<ref type="bibl" target="mol:WEIN1">Weinreb and Hibbert 741</ref>).</p>
