O4r</ref>), <quote><ref target="mol:STAN8">Saint Andrew Vndershaft</ref></quote> (<ref type="mol:bibl" target="mol:stow_1633_ALDG2#stow_1633_ALDG2_sig_O4v">Stow 1633, sig. O4v</ref>), and <quote><ref target="mol:STKA1">S. Katharine, called Coleman</ref></quote> (<ref type="mol:bibl" target="mol:stow_1633_ALDG2#stow_1633_ALDG2_sig_P1v">Stow 1633, sig. P1v</ref>). MoEML however, links four churches to entries in our <ref target="mdtlist:mdtEncyclopedia_subcategories">encyclopedia</ref>. This discrepancy is the result of different ways of thinking about the churches: <name ref="mol:STOW6">Stow</name> lists active parishes (institutions), whereas our map shows physical buildings on particular sites.</p></abstract>

          the scenario in which a page such as an A-Z index of the whole site would end up containing 
          virtually the whole site inside itself.</p>

Although <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref> (the progenitor of <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Cree</ref>) had been dissolved in <date from-custom="1531" to-custom="1532" datingMethod="mol:julianSic" calendar="mol:julianSic">1531–1532</date>, its buildings remained on the site just north of the <ref target="mol:STCA1">parish church of St. Katherine Cree</ref> (or <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Christ Church</ref>). On the Agas map, the complex of buildings formerly belonging to <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref> is labelled <quote><ref target="mol:HOLY1">Crychur</ref></quote>, even through the buildings were now owned by various merchants and courtiers. Just south of this complex, on <ref target="mol:LEAD2">Leadenhall Street</ref>, stands the <ref target="mol:STCA1">parish church of St. Katherine Cree</ref>.</p>
                
                <p>Our <ref target="mdtlist:mdtEncyclopedia_subcategories">encyclopedia</ref> has separate entries for <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Cree</ref> and for <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref> (<ref target="mol:HOLY1">Christ Church</ref>), but the two institutions have an entwined history.</p>

                    <item><date when-custom="1108" datingMethod="mol:julianSic">1108</date>: There were three parishes in this area: <ref target="mol:STMA142">Parish of St. Mary Magdalen (Aldgate)</ref>, <ref target="mol:STMI111">Parish of St. Michael (Aldgate)</ref>, and the <ref target="mol:STKA109">Parish of St. Katherine (Aldgate)</ref>. Collectively, they seem to have been known as the <quote><ref target="mol:HOLY1">Parish of Holy Trinity</ref></quote>.</item>
                    <item>c. <date when-custom="1107" datingMethod="mol:julianSic" calendar="mol:julianSic">1107</date> or <date when-custom="1108" datingMethod="mol:julianSic" calendar="mol:julianSic">1108</date>: <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref> was founded during the <date when-custom="r_HENR3" datingMethod="mol:regnal" calendar="mol:regnal">reign of <name ref="mol:HENR3">Henry I</name></date> at the instigation of his first wife, <name ref="mol:MATI1">Matilda of Scotland</name>, on the site of the <ref target="mol:STMA42">church of the Holy Cross and St. Mary Magdalene</ref> (<ref type="bibl" target="mol:PAGE1">Page 465-475</ref>). The former chapel of <ref target="mol:STMI11">St. Michael</ref> and the church of <ref target="mol:STKA9">St. Katherine, Aldgate</ref> were in the yard of the priory. <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref> was also known as <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Christ Church</ref>. The parishioners of the three parishes continued their worship in the Priory church.</item>
                    <item><date when-custom="1280" datingMethod="mol:julianSic">1280</date>: <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Cree</ref> was founded by the Prior to give the parishioners their own place of worship where they would not disrupt the activities of the priory. <mentioned>Cree</mentioned> is a corruption of <mentioned>Christ Church</mentioned>.</item>
                    <item><date when-custom="1532-02" calendar="mol:julianSic" datingMethod="mol:julianSic">February 1532</date>: The priory was dissolved during the dissolution of the monasteries. The lands and buildings were sold or given by <name ref="mol:HENR1">Henry VIII</name> to courtiers and prominent citizens.</item>
                    <item>c. <date notBefore-custom="1560" notAfter-custom="1569" datingMethod="mol:julianSic" calendar="mol:julianSic">1560s</date>: The Agas map was drawn showing <quote><ref target="mol:HOLY1">Chrychur</ref></quote>.</item>

                <p><ref target="mol:STAN8">St. Andrew Undershaft</ref> was on the western edge of the ward, on the west side of <ref target="mol:STMA7">St. Mary Axe Street</ref> and behind a row of houses that fronted the  north side of <ref target="mol:ALDG4">Aldgate Street</ref>. It was right across the street from the former <ref target="mol:STMA41">St. Mary Axe</ref>, which had been given to the <ref target="mol:STAN108">Parish of St. Andrew (Undershaft)</ref> in <date when-custom="1565" datingMethod="mol:julianSic" calendar="mol:julianSic">1565</date>.</p>
                
                <p><ref target="mol:STKA1">St. Katherine Coleman</ref> was in the southern half of the ward, on the south side of <ref target="mol:FENC1">Fenchurch Street</ref>.</p>
