               <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Cree</ref> is an old parish church located on the
          north side of <ref target="mol:LEAD2">Leadenhall Street</ref> between <ref target="mol:ALDG1">Aldgate</ref> and <ref target="mol:STMA41">St. Mary Axe</ref>. It is
          in <ref target="mol:ALDG2">Aldgate Ward</ref>. The parish of <ref target="mol:STCA1">St.
            Katherine</ref> predates the <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref>, of which
            <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine’s</ref> became a part in 1108, and the church
          survived the priory’s dissolution in 1531. According to a 1414 decree by the Bishop of
          London, the church was built so that the priory canons, who had previously shared <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Christ Church</ref> with the laity, had a separate place to worship
            (<ref type="bibl" target="mol:HARB1">Harben</ref>; <ref type="bibl" target="mol:WEIN1">Weinreb &amp; Hibbert</ref> 778). Stow reports that the church was so old that one had
          to descend seven steps to enter it. He also adds that the church’s steeple and bell tower,
          built in 1504, were the most recent additions (<ref type="bibl" target="mol:STOW15">Stow</ref>). <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Cree</ref> is also known by the
          names <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine and the Blessed Trinity</ref> and <ref target="mol:STCA1">St. Katherine Christ Church</ref>. The Church is drawn on the Agas
          map on the north side of <ref target="mol:LEAD2">Leadenhall Street</ref>, south of <ref target="mol:HOLY1">Holy Trinity Priory</ref> and east of the well in <ref target="mol:ALDG4">Aldgate Street</ref>. It has no label accompanying it. </p>
